Creating an Interprofessional Workforce Framework

The Framework is the outcome of the Creating an Interprofessional Workforce Programme (CIPW), a three-year programme funded by the Department of Health and hosted by South West Peninsula Strategic Health Authority.  The CIPW Framework was produced in partnership with the UK Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE).

The CIPW Framework is aimed at those planning, delivering and evaluating interprofessional education, and will be of particular use to those commissioning and developing programmes of interprofessional education as well as employers, professional bodies and the wider health, social care and children’s services communities.  It is a tool to enable the spreading of good practice in interprofessional education to support effective interprofessional collaboration and improve the quality of care.  It also offers guidance to those involved in interprofessional education wishing to develop and enhance their practice.

The CIPW Framework builds on the consultations carried out as part of the Creating an Interprofessional Workforce Programme.  It has been informed by evidence from research, systematic review, Government policy and experiences of interprofessional education.  It represents the culmination of three years work carried out across the health, social care and children’s services sectors and reflects the views of its wide range of participants.

The CIPW Framework makes 12 recommendations to stakeholders in health, social care and children’s services that, when effectively implemented, will help to develop and sustain a collaborative culture and supportive infrastructure for the training and development of an interprofessional workforce.
